Some old news worth repeating:
Smithfield
has lowest power rates
Apparently, some folks missed the news this past year that the Town of Smithfield's residential electric rates are now LOWER than rates charged by Duke Energy and the other Johnston County towns that operate electrical systems.
Some Facebook posts that appeared following the recent power outage here talked about the town's high rates and poor service. In years past those statements were on the money. But not anymore.
Those Facebook comments prompted Mayor Andy Moore to give a personal testimony about electric rates near the close of Tuesday night's Town Council session. Not long ago he moved from an older residence in South Smithfield to a brand-new home inside the town limits at Holt Lake. To his surprise, electric bills at the new place are much higher than what he was paying at his former residence, which he said is about the same size as his new home.
The reason? Residents at Holt Lake get their electricity from Duke Energy rather than the Town of Smithfield since power service out there was put in place by CP&L (Duke's predecessor) years before the town annexed properties on the lake's north shore.
