A new season for youth basketball
Smithfield Parks & Recreation is running youth basketball leagues this winter for 31 teams with more than 300 players competing in five divisions organized by age from 5 to 15. Most of the games are played in the Recreation & Aquatics Center (pictured); others are in the Smithfield Middle School gym --- from first thing Saturday morning to well into the afternoon each week.

Not only were the basketball courts brimming with activity last Saturday morning, but so were the swimming pools inside the Smithfield Recreation & Aquatics Center. While one of several swim teams that use the SRAC went through its practice laps, parents with children played in the big pool's shallow end (foreground) and the "splash park" (background).

Boys Baseball Registration
Registration is under way now
through Feb. 14 for Boys Baseball, Ages 7-15 (age as of
5/1/2020 determines playing category). Registration fee
is $25 for Smithfield resident and $50 for
non-Smithfield resident. Practices begin mid-March with
games beginning in April. Registration fees are due at
time of registration.
Girls Softball Registration
Registration is under way now
through Feb. 21 for Girls Softball, Ages 7-12 (age as of
1/1/2020 determines playing category). Registration
fee is $25 for Smithfield resident and $50 for
non-Smithfield resident. Practices begin in
April. Registration fees are due at time of
registration.
Daddy-Daughter Dance
Saturday, Feb. 22
Registration begins next
Monday (Jan. 13) and
ends Feb. 14 for the 23rd annual
Daddy-Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 22 at
the Smithfield Recreation & Aquatics Center. From 7
to 10 p.m. couples will enjoy musical entertainment,
dancing, appetizers, and a photo booth. Registration fee
is $45 for Smithfield resident couple and $55 for
non-Smithfield resident couple. There's a $5 charge for
each additional daughter.
