SSS to celebrate 50 years of Spartan
basketball weekend of January 24-25
Smithfield-Selma High School will honor its basketball alumni from the past 50 years with two days of events.
They'll be recognized on "Alumni Night" Friday, Jan. 24 during halftimes of the Spartans' games versus the present-day girls and boys teams from Clayton High School. Admission will be free of charge to all former SSS players and coaches. Game times are 6 p.m. for the girls, 7:30 for the boys.
Then, on Saturday, Jan. 25 former SSS basketballers will play in three alumni games --- women at 12 noon, men ages 30 and over at 1 p.m., followed by men under 30 at 2 p.m. There's a $5 fee to play in the game, and adult spectators will be charged $5 to witness the event ($1 admission for school-age kids).
Finally, an Alumni Social is planned for 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 for sharing stories of half a century of Spartan basketball. Videos of past teams and players will be shown, and light refreshments will be served. The social will take place inside the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center next to the high school.

Smithfield Parks & Recreation Activities
Boys Baseball Registration
Registration is under way now
through Feb. 14 for Boys Baseball, Ages 7-15 (age as of
5/1/2020 determines playing category). Registration fee
is $25 for Smithfield resident and $50 for
non-Smithfield resident. Practices begin mid-March with
games beginning in April. Registration fees are due at
time of registration.
Girls Softball Registration
Registration is under way now
through Feb. 21 for Girls Softball, Ages 7-12 (age as of
1/1/2020 determines playing category). Registration
fee is $25 for Smithfield resident and $50 for
non-Smithfield resident. Practices begin in
April. Registration fees are due at time of
registration.
Daddy-Daughter Dance
Saturday, Feb. 22
Registration is under way
now through Feb. 14
for the 23rd annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on
Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Smithfield
Recreation & Aquatics Center. From 7 to 10 p.m.
couples will enjoy musical entertainment, dancing,
appetizers, and a photo booth. Registration fee is $45
for Smithfield resident couple and $55 for
non-Smithfield resident couple. There's a $5 charge for
each additional daughter.
