County's health director delivers
urgent plea that's worth repeating
Dr. Marilyn Pearson, director of the Johnston County Public Health Department, has said it before and she emphasized it again at Monday's monthly meeting of the County Commissioners:
"Everyone needs to wear a mask. If you are not in your home with someone you're living with, you should wear a mask."
Furthermore, she urged, "as much as you can, physically distance. That six feet is important."
Finally, she advised, don't forget to wash your hands "and try to use hand sanitizer."
Dr. Pearson and just about everyone else on the front lives of the coronavirus pandemic are visibly shaken by the recent upsurge. Thanksgiving was likely a major spreader, and they fear the Christmas holiday season will make things even worse as folks move about and seek out friends and relatives they haven't seen in months.
Patience. We need lots of patience.
And we need to embrace the faith that personal sacrifices we're being asked to make just now will lead us back to normalcy before too much longer.
The Greatest Generation showed us how it's done as they dealt with the Great Depression and the Second World War. Let's not disappoint them by refusing to face the reality before us.

This spectacular red maple was still showing its stuff last Friday beside Riverside Drive. (And I thought the fall-color season had faded away already.)
