Perhaps it's time for a refresher
on navigating the Weekly Sun
Talking with one of the Sun's faithful readers this week, I learned that she's saving all the e-mail alerts sent to subscribers every Thursday, thinking that gives her access to past editions.
When she told me those previous e-mails always send her to the current edition, I told her that's the way it's supposed to work. Since the Sun is published as a website, the current edition is what you're always going to get when you link to www.smithfieldweeklysun.com.
She hadn't noticed the Rewind with our Archives link at the bottom of each edition's front page. When you click on that link you open a page with links to all the editions published so far in 2021. At the bottom of that page is a link to Previous Years' Editions, starting with the list for 2020 followed by a link to the editions of 2019, the Sun's first year of publication.
In other words, you don't need to save every edition on your phone or computer. They're always available through that Archives link on the front page.
Speaking of links, you'll notice underlined, colored text (usually blue or purple) with most of the Sun's stories (and all of the sponsors' advertisements). They'll will carry you to websites related to the subject matter at hand --- for readers who want to learn more than what's published in the Sun.
Other such links will take you to additional Sun pages attached to the current edition and sometimes to PDF pages with information such as the list of Smithfield-Selma High School graduates shown on a separate page attached to this week's edition.
And if you want to send the editor (that's me) an e-mail with a comment or question, there's a colored link at the top of the front page (just below the dateline), another toward the bottom of this page (Observations). I'd like to hear more from the Sun's readers, and I promise to respond as promptly as I can, even if it's just to acknowledge that I received your message.
